Dumont Cancels Meeting on Apartments Plan

DUMONT -- The Borough Council has canceled tonight's public meeting in the high school auditorium over a controversy-raising plan to allow a developer to erect apartment buildings on the site of the former D'Angelo Farms and public properties.

Instead, the council decided to meet in closed executive session in the conference room of Borough Hall to discuss the plan, and new information affecting it, away from public view, officials said.

"We decided to have more of a closed session," said Matthew Hayes, one of seven members of the council, including Mayor James Kelly.

"We were supposed to have all the plans, etc., in time for the public meeting, but we kept getting new changes, and we didn't get the final version until this afternoon," Hayes said Monday. "It just got to us too late."

Hayes added: "We have to go over the whole new proposal, and there are quite a few things we have to revisit. …
