Forward Powell Leaving Dukes Sophomore Opts for Immediate Exit

Duquesne forward TySean Powell is leaving the team and will transfer from the school, the university confirmed Monday after the sophomore announced his decision on Twitter.

He will not play the rest of this season and will transfer at the end of the semester.

"I would like to thank the Duquesne Basketball Program for allowing me to pursue my dream of playing college basketball, but at this stage in my career I feel it is best to move on to different opportunities that fit me as a player and the family oriented person that I am," Powell wrote in his Twitter message.

Utilized as one of first players off the bench, Powell, 6 feet 8, was averaging 6.3 points and 4.9 rebounds in 20.6 minutes per game this season.

Though his scoring was about level with where it was his freshman season, he displayed an improved back-to-the-basket game while continuing to showcase his exceptional athleticism, seen most often with thunderous, high-flying dunks. …
