LOUIS van Gaal got it wrong on Sunday. Not his team selection or his tactical plan - his decisions on the pitch were proved right with United's vital 3-2 home win over Arsenal.

It was after the final whistle he made his error. When it was put to him during his post-match press conference the fans had enjoyed his show of emotion on the touchline, he said: 'maybe they are not so wise'. It was 'not wise', he suggested, for them to cheer his theatrical dive, something he felt the need to apologise for afterwards. But he had missed the point.

The sight of Van Gaal charging down the steps of the dug-out to berate fourth official Mike Dean was welcome. Old Trafford was already cheering him on well before he fell to the floor.
