Riverview Girls Look like Contenders in Section 4

Article excerpt

Back-to-back home losses have not deterred the Riverview girls' basketball team.

The Raiders (7-2, 3-0) appear to be in a very strong position toward playoff-contention.

After an 80-71 victory in Section 4-AA against Wilkinsburg, Riverview is riding a four-game winning streak into its non-section game tomorrow night Highlands.

Coach Paul Sylba is confident his team has what it takes to contend for the section championship.

The Raiders returned four starters from last season's team that just missed the playoffs. Part of Riverview's problems last season stem from a flu bug that went through the roster during a crucial part of the section schedule when the Raiders faced the top three teams.

Janice Alcorn, a 5-9 junior forward, moved into the starting lineup. Her older sister, Emily, graduated as the school's all-time leading scorer two years ago.

Crummie took over last season for Emily Alcorn as the Raiders' scoring leader, averaging 18 points per game. Crummie is continuing her productive scoring pace by averaging 21 points this season after a career-high 35-point outing against Wilkinsburg. This performance comes on the heels of Crummie's previous career high of 28 during a 67-50 section win at Vincentian on Dec. …
