Give Child Abuse Victims a Chance for Justice

In regard to Rep. Joseph Petrarca's comments about trying to strike a balance in time limitations for child sex crimes ("Altoona Scandal Renews Calls for End to Statutes of Limitation," March 3), here are some considerations.

He says victims need to have the availability of the perpetrators or co-conspirators and the information to seek justice. How do victims do that if the law does not let them file charges? If the statute of limitations is lifted, victims have the chance for justice. How does anyone know what information or people are available unless they have an attorney doing the seeking?

There will not be a deluge of unfounded cases. (At one time, all child sex crimes were deemed unfounded.) No law firm is going to waste its time if there is not enough evidence. …
