Idle Threat Trump Should Focus on Policy, Not Libel Law

One would think, given his public business career and his long association with reality show "The Apprentice," that Donald J. Trump would have a little more media savvy.

The leading candidate for the Republican presidential nomination has feuded with Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly. He has questioned the veracity of the reporters who cover him daily. He has dubbed The New York Times "one of the most dishonest media outlets I've seen in my life" and called for the firing of The Wall Street Journal's editorial board.

Mr. Trump has consistently complained about how the media have covered his campaign. Thus it was no surprise that the real estate tycoon said last Friday and again Sunday that, as president, he would loosen libel laws to make it easier to sue the press.
