Winners of the Pittsburgh Concert Society's 2016 Young Artist Auditions will perform music by Beethoven, Chopin, Mozart and others at 2 p.m. at Kresge Theatre, Carnegie Mellon University, Oakland. Featured in the program are the Penn Quartet (violinists Kerry Broker and Hannah Ishizaki, violist Jim Cunningham and cellist Kyle Johnson), flutist Rebecca Scimio with pianist Matt Klumpp, and pianists Rowan Belt, Rebecca Chen and Emma Grace Kim. The Kelly-Strayhorn Theater presents the Afronaut(a) 3.0 Film Club at the Alloy Studios, 5530 Penn Ave., Friendship, at 2 p.m. The five-week film series showcases films that inspire the work of Pittsburgh artist Alisha B. Wormsley. Each salon-style event includes a guest artist who facilitates a short discussion and shares how the film has influenced his/her own works of art. The series integrates live performances by local and national artists. This week's installment includes artist Scott Andre, with a talk and screening of "Mamma Said," and screenings of the video installation "Snow White," "She Gone Rogue" and "What's the Love Making Babies For." Artist Valerie S. Goodwin will have one of her landscape quilts on display at the Elsie H. Hillman Auditorium's Kaufmann Center, 1825 Centre Ave., Hill District, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Ms. Goodwin combines her love of cartography, architecture and quilting to create unique landscape quilts. She draws inspiration from maps, urban plans and famous landmarks to create elaborate, multicolored pieces. An instructor of architectural design at Florida A&M University, she has led workshops all across the country. This exhibit is part of the Hill House's "28 Days" series highlighting culture and art in the Hill District. It's free and open to the public. For more info: www.hillhouse.org.
