MUSKOGEE - Larry Hawkins will start his first day as interim superintendent at the Oklahoma School for the Blind on Tuesday.

Hawkins served as OSB superintendent for 18 months in 2010 and 2011.

OSB is a division of the Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services.

Hawkins' appointment was one of the first major decisions by Noel Tyler, interim DRS executive director.

Tyler was appointed interim executive director after DRS Executive Director Joe Cordova resigned early this month amid complaints of favoritism.

The commission that oversees the agency also rescinded one of Cordova's hires, Superintendent Christine Boone.

Hawkins also served 11 years as Oklahoma School for the Deaf superintendent, and one year as an administrator and six years as a classroom teacher at the sister school in Sulphur. …
