Though it is the smallest member of the Penn State family, the Commonwealth College campus in Center makes a big economic impact on the community, a recent study finds.

According to the report by Tripp, Umbach & Associates Inc., a consulting firm in Downtown Pittsburgh, the campus was directly or indirectly responsible for 218 jobs in Beaver County and 433 in the state, including full- and part-time faculty and staff and construction jobs created by building projects such as the new administration building, which opened with the start of the spring 2004 semester.

Total business volume generated for the county -- expenditures for capital improvements and goods and services as well as spending of employees, faculty, staff students and visitors -- was put at $23. …
