WICHITA -- Whitney Prockish fell short in her bid to win back-to- back individual championships at the Class 6A state bowling championship Thursday at Northrock Lanes, but she and her Washburn Rural teammates enjoyed huge days as the Junior Blues finished second as a team.

Prockish placed third with a total of 662 pins, just 10 behind state champion Casey Holmes from Junction City.

Prockish rolled a 213 game to start Thursday's tournament. She followed with a 196 but finished strong with a 253 in the final game.

"It was great way for her (Prockish) to exit her senior year," Junior Blues coach Ed Lee said. "Sure everyone wants to win, that's the nature of competition. We know there is some disappointment there for her, but after winning state your junior year, where do you go from there?

Millard finished 10th, rolling a 251 in the final game to finish with a 650.

"I was feeling really good," Millard said. "I came out with all of those strikes and then when I had that open in the sixth frame I was able to stay calm and collected. Whitney and I just kept getting strikes."

The Junior Blues were strong in their first game. Sophomore Kellie Passow had a "six-pack" for a total of 232 pins. Passow struggled in her final two games, but Lauren Buchanan picked up the slack with scores of 175 and 216. …
