Topeka City Manager, Finance Director Ordered to Testify in Lawsuit Hearing

Topeka city manager Jim Colson and finance director Brandon Kauffman were ordered in subpoenas issued Friday in Shawnee County District Court to appear Monday to testify at a hearing in a lawsuit against the city.

The separate subpoenas command Colson and Kauffman to appear at 1:30 p.m. Monday for the hearing regarding a suit filed by former Topeka City Councilman John Alcala seeking to nullify the contract Colson signed last month with the city of Goodyear, Ariz.

The contract loans one of Goodyear's deputy fire chiefs, Tim Wayne, for six months to the city of Topeka to serve as its interim fire chief. Wayne began working in that position on Tuesday.

Statements on the subpoenas indicate Colson and Kauffman were ordered by R.E. "Tuck" Duncan, the attorney representing Alcala. …
