Herd's Loop, Elmore Named to C-USA All-Academic Team

In his second year as Marshall's basketball coach, Dan D'Antoni has bragged on his team's academic progress as much as its improvement on the court. Now, Conference USA is backing that up.

Austin Loop and Jon Elmore were selected to the league's men's basketball all-academic team, announced Friday. It is the first time since the Thundering Herd joined the league in 2005-06 that two of its members have been so honored.

Loop becomes the first Herd player to win the honor twice, doing so last year, and Elmore is just the fourth MU player so honored. The two helped the Herd pull a 2.93 grade-point average in the fall 2015 semester.

And this is the most impressive item: As is the custom, there are only five selections in the 14-school conferences. The Herd accounted for 40 percent.

On that scale, that's an A-plus.

"These two are the leaders in what we're trying to do at Marshall, D'Antoni said. "That's to be successful academically and athletically. I'm proud of them for their hard work, all around. …
