Policeman Charged in Shooting Is Free on Bail

The Paterson police officer who is facing criminal charges involving a shooting outside a downtown convenience store last month has posted bail and is wearing an electronic ankle bracelet monitor, the Passaic County prosecutor said.

The officer, Dante Gordon, 25, posted $100,000 bail and was released from the Passaic County Jail at 10:30 p.m. Friday, officials said.

Gordon has been charged with three counts of assault and one weapons offense. He was off duty at 1:20 a.m. on Feb. 25 when he pointed his gun at a 34-year-old Wanaque man and fired, Prosecutor Camelia Valdes said in a press release.

Debris from the discharge struck the Wanaque man as well as a 36- year-old Paterson man who was nearby, the prosecutor said.

The incident happened outside the 7-Eleven store at the corner of Main and Market streets. …
