Update: Englewood to Open Pool 7 Days a Week in Summer

What's new: The Tryon Avenue pool in Englewood will be open seven days a week this summer. The decision was made recently at the council's debates on its 2016 spending plan. It will cost the city an additional $21,000 to keep the pool open all week, City Manager Timothy Dacey said.

Background: The Tryon pool has been closed to the public Mondays through Wednesdays, when it was used by the YWCA for swim classes in the morning and by a swim team in the afternoon.

In part, the pool was closed to the public because of dropping attendance and the popularity of the pool in Mackay Park, officials have said.

Residents, however, packed a meeting last summer to express concerns on a number of topics, including the Tryon pool's operating hours. Residents said they did not go to the Tryon pool because of its limited hours or they did not purchase a pass to the city's pools because of rate increases. …
