PATRICK Vieira kicked off his managerial career in senior football with an entertaining 4-3 win over Chicago Fire.

Hired as the head coach of New York City FC after two-and-a-half years with City EDS, the Frenchman oversaw victory at his first attempt in MLS.

Goals from Tommy McNamara, Tony Taylor, Khry Shelton and Mix Diskerud made for a happy coach after the game.

"It feels really good," said Vieira.

"I was really pleased with the way we played. It wasn't an easy game and that makes me proud because it is always good to start the league with a win.

"I'm really excited because I believe that the team can improve a lot and the way we played we showed how good and what potential we have in our squad and our team. …
