AYOUNG girl and her family have heaped praise on hero fire- fighters who rescued them from a broken lift.

Gary Gibbons was visiting his mother Carol with wife Tracy, eight- year-old daughter Jasmine and son Tom, 15, at Malus Court tower block in Salford when the lift 'came to a screeching halt'.

Firefighters were quickly on the scene after the family raised the alarm by dialling 999.

The crew helped to calm young Jasmine, who began to panic when she realised they were trapped.

Tracy has thanked fire-fighters for their help.

She said the crew told Jasmine to draw them pictures to keep her calm while they set about freeing them.

Tracy, 35, said: "The lift buckled and came to a screeching halt.

"Jasmine was very shaken and upset. …
