FANCY living in a cemetery? A council is offering you the unusual opportunity as it sells off a raft of unwanted and disused buildings.

Salford town hall is flogging Peel Green Cemetery Lodge, a 19th century stone and slate building near the graveyard's gateway.

The lodge was built in 1879 and was last used as offices by the council's bereavement services team last year. And though it may not be everyone's ideal home, 'at 184 sq m internally, it offers just over twice the floor space of the average UK house'.

Situated close to Salford City Reds' stadium and the Trafford Centre, the property does not have a specified price.

The council has been trying to offload the lodge for several months, but has been unable to find a suitable buyer.

It is believed town hall bosses would prefer a commercial buyer to keep the property a functional part of the cemetery, such as a cafe or florist. …
