All that was missing Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway were locusts. Other than that every other challenge of biblical proportions seems to descend on the 1.5-mile speedway.

High winds, rain and sandstorms were just a few of the highlights drivers had to deal with on Sunday while trying to dial in the new lower aerodynamic downforce rules package.

The reality is for the most part everyone did a remarkable job battling the conditions as well as the at time finicky handling of the new rules package.

The first half of Sunday's race realty didn't look much different than intermediate track races in recent years. There were tight packs and battling for position after restarts but things strung out as laps went on. Unlike last week's race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, it didn't appear as if tire wear and management would make as big an impact in Vegas. …
