Fans wishing to attend the North American Football League contest between the Pittsburgh Tornadoes and Pittsburgh Colts Saturday afternoon at North Park's J.C. Stone Field were surprised to see the gates locked when they arrived.

That's nothing. The Parks Department was surprised to read in the Post-Gazette last week there was a game at Stone Field at all.

"[The] game [was] postponed due to an insurance conflict. Policy could not be received in time," read an email from Tornadoes co- owner Don Gibbs.

But an employee at the Parks Department stated they had never received payment from the Tornadoes. A check of department records also showed the team had not paid for three other dates they reserved for the field -- Sunday, Aug. 29, Saturday, Sept. 4, and Sunday, Sept. 12. "We want to make sure there are no forfeits," Gibbs said in response.

NAFL rules state that teams must play a minimum of eight games against league opponents to be eligible for the playoffs, so even if Saturday's game is not rescheduled both teams would still meet that requirement. …
