King Claims Women's Lead with 289 Game

Article excerpt

While Kyle Turner posted the top series, a trio of games had major impact on the city bowling season honor roll last week.

All three games were shot a week ago Tuesday, and two of them were worthy of first-place status -- Peggy King's 289 in the Deb Rogers Memorial League at West Ridge Lanes and Geoff Morris' 300 in the Gage Majors League at Gage Center Bowl.

King, who had a 572 series, knocked Chelsie Bahr (with a pair of 280 games) out of first place on the women's honor roll, while Morris, who rolled 180-208-300 -- 688, recorded the 32nd men's 300 this season.

Mark Grim, meanwhile, tied for ninth place on the senior men's list with a 279 game in the Funtime Friends League at West Ridge.

Turner waited until Saturday night to shoot 259-279-249 -- 787 in the Northern Lights League at West Ridge, a score that ranks 16th this season.

Other top adult scores: Daniel Dickson, 279 -- 769; Justin Rodgers, 761; Chelsie Bahr, 657; Rachel Barber, 654; and Melissa Urich, 652.

The senior ranks also yielded a pair of 700 series by Gerry Sanders, 268-206-248 -- 722 and 269-215-229 -- 713, and one by John Bortz, 253-210-245 -- 710, all at West Ridge, where Kay Johnson paced the senior women with a 236 -- 589 outing.

The youth were led by Blake Massey, 247 -- 683; John Baeten, 255 - - 677; Dylan Casto, 246 -- 667; Cody Mzhickteno, 264 -- 659; Gabi Millard, 214 -- 568; and Carley Sullivan, 568, all at West Ridge.

- Amber Williams and John Swank, of Grantville, had a productive trip last weekend to the Greater Ozarks Open in Springfield, Mo. Swank tossed a 783 scratch series in doubles and Williams a 708 to finish the weekend in first place (by 17 pins) with a handicapped total of 1,531.

Williams also shot 237-277-265 -- 779 in singles to tie for second place with a 799 handicapped score, while Swank added a pair of 704 series in singles and team event for a 2,191 scratch total that currently ranks third.

The tournament continues on weekends (except Easter) through June 12.
