Vendor to Run SCAT Plus | Cost, Service to Riders Will Not Change | Cost, Service to Riders Will Remain the Same

SARASOTA COUNTY -- A private vendor, Ride Right, will take over Sarasota County Area Transit's paratransit services beginning Tuesday.

Known as SCAT Plus, the service provides transportation for eligible area residents with disabilities who are unable to use the county's bus service.

Last month the Missouri-based company was awarded a three-year, $18 million contract to manage the county's paratransit services after almost a year of county discussions about how to cut costs and find efficiencies.

County officials have said they expect the move to save up to $600,000 per year on the about 180,000 annual trips the service provides.

But the change in provider will not translate to a change in

service or cost to riders.

Fares will remain at $2.50 per trip, and Ride Right will retain SCAT's existing employees and fleet, SCAT Director Rocky Burke has said. …
