30,000 State Wal-Mart Workers Get Raises

Nearly 30,000 Wal-Mart employees in Oklahoma will get raises in paychecks being issued this week.

The workers are among 1.2 million nationwide getting raises, according to the retailer.

The increases are part of the company's two-year, $2.7 billion investment in higher pay, better training, clearer career paths and additional educational opportunities for its workers.

Wal-Mart associates are eligible for quarterly cash bonuses based on the performance of their stores. The March 10 paycheck for eligible Oklahoma associates will include a share of the more than $5 million bonus earned in the fourth quarter.

"I've been with Wal-Mart less than two years, starting as an hourly associate, and have had the opportunity to work up to an assistant store manager," said Jana Brusa-Nette from the new Supercenter in Norman set to open this spring. …
