SOCIAL workers and town hall bosses ditched their suits to dress up as Minions for an awards ceremony for young people.

The event in Wigan celebrated the achievements of those in care and their carers, and saw more than 400 people gather - along with Kevin, Bob and a host of other cartoon favourites.

Cabinet portfolio holder for children and young people at Wigan council, Coun Jo Platt, said: "We understand that being a young person, especially one in care, can sometimes be difficult.

"The aim of this event is to celebrate all of those times that young people in care have done their best and achieved fantastic things, whether that means trying hard at school, being kind to friends and neighbours, taking good care of themselves and each other or helping out in their community."

The celebration was held at the DW Stadium and organised by young people's group Voices for Choices. …
