Police Ask Teachers to Identify Pupils Pictured in City Centre Disturbances

POLICE will be visiting schools in a bid to prevent youngsters causing trouble in the city centre. Teachers will be asked to identify ringleaders from CCTV after more than 200 youngsters were involved in disturbances in Piccadilly Gardens on Friday night.

It was the second Friday in a row when school kids had converged on the city centre and created a disturbance.

Large numbers of police had to be drafted in on Friday to restore order after a number of fights broke out, including inside McDonald's, spiralling out of control.

Only one girl was arrested as a result of the trouble, which lasted well over an hour before the pupils eventually dispersed.

She was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence.
