GWHS Gets Kooky with 'The Addams Family' Musical

George Washington High School's Theatre of the Nevertheless is preparing for its second production of the school year. "The Addams Family, a musical comedy, will open 7 p.m. Friday at the GWHS auditorium. The play focuses on Wednesday Addams (played by junior Savannah Reese), who has fallen for Lucas Bieneke (played by sophomore Jake Guthrie), a proper young man who is nothing like her family. While trying to make their relationship work, Wednesday must introduce him and his family to her notoriously creepy family, including her parents Gomez (played by senior Devan Copley) and Morticia (played by freshman Erika Carper).

"It's just funny. It's fast pace, said junior Madison McGhee, the musical's director.

"The Addams Family began on Broadway in 2009. Most people, however, don't know the eerie family from the musical, but instead from the television series "The Addams Family (which ran from 1964 to 1966), "The Addams Family 1991 film from 1991 and the 1993 sequel "Addams Family Values.

"In the past, we've done some serious shows, but this is fun. Younger audiences will definitely like it. It's a show for all ages, McGhee said.

She assured that audience members don't have to be familiar with the Addams family to enjoy the show. …
