Steps against painkiller, heroin crisis * The Senate authorized, 94-1, $570 million over five years for grants to help states and communities address a national epidemic in which dependence on painkillers often leads to heroin addiction and overdose deaths. A yes vote was to send S 524 to the House, where it was expected to advance.
