SUPPORTERS of the historic Wythenshawe Hall have vowed to restore the fire-ravaged building.

They are convinced it was only thanks to the quick response of emergency services that the much-loved house is still standing.

The Friends of Wythenshawe Hall, who have spent thousands of pounds and endless hours making the building the historic gem it is today, described the destruction as their 'worst nightmare'.

Surveying the devastation, group vice chair Paul Selby said it was a very upsetting time for not only the group, but also the community who have a lot of pride in the iconic piece of heritage.

Mr Selby explained that most of the damage was caused to the withdrawing room - the oldest part of the building where the Tatton family used to retire to relax after entertaining guests downstairs. …
