ST. LOUIS * A 7-year-old boy was apparently hit by a stray bullet Tuesday morning as he walked to a store with his family, according to police who were still trying to sort out the incident.

The boy was hit in the right cheek and was taken to a hospital by family members. Authorities said he was stable.

The boy was hit by a bullet near Pleasant Street and Bailey Avenue, just east of Fairground Park, as he walked with a group of adults and other children, according to St. Louis police Capt. Renee Kriesmann.

The shooting was reported to police about 10:45 a.m. after the boy showed up at the hospital, but police believe it may be tied to a report of shots fired about 30 minutes earlier.

That call came from Grove Street and Lee Avenue, a few blocks away. Police believe the shots heard there may have been the ones that injured the boy, but they haven't found shell casings. …
