Derrick Johnson's Return Headlines Busy First Day of Free Agency for Chiefs

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Chiefs were busy Friday taking care of in- house matters ahead of the start of free agency on March 9.

The Chiefs tendered defensive linemen Nick Williams and David King as exclusive rights free agents, sources informed ChiefsDigest.com and The Topeka Capital-Journal. The sources spoke on the condition of anonymity because the Chiefs have not announced the transaction.

The 6-foot-4, 309-pound Williams appeared in 14 games the past season, totaling nine tackles (five solo) on 182 defensive snaps. He originally joined the Chiefs on Nov. 24, 2014 after being signed to the active 53-man roster from the Pittsburgh Steelers practice squad.

Williams entered the league in 2013 out of Samford as a seventh- round pick with Pittsburgh, but spent the year on injured reserve with a knee injury. …
