THE number of child-grooming offences has more than doubled in Greater Manchester in just two years.

Latest figures from GMP showed there were 41 cases of sexual grooming in the first six months of 2015-16.

That compares with 68 in the whole of 2014-15, 33 in the whole of 2013-14, and just 17 in the whole of 2012-13.

The huge rise is mirrored in the national figures and comes in the wake of a number of highprofile cases which have pushed grooming up the political agenda.

They include the scandals in Rochdale, Rotherham and Oxfordshire.

Nationally, there were 498 recorded cases of grooming in the first six months of 2015-16, which covers the period from April to September last year.

That is more than the 459 cases in the whole of 2013-14. There were 684 cases in the whole of 2014-15. …
