Parking Authority Oks New Meters, Parking Lot Repairs

The Pittsburgh Parking Authority will buy 40 multi-space parking meters and update three to five parking lots at a cost of $560,000.

Both at Thursday's meeting and its Feb. 18 meeting, the board voted to purchase 20 multi-space parking meters from Cale America at a cost of $130,000, which includes installation.

Some of the 40 new units will be used in newly metered areas along Penn Avenue, around new development in Bakery Square and on Broadway Avenue in Beechview, where single-space meters have to be removed while the Port Authority rebuilds the rail lines and road surface, Executive Director David Onorato said.

Another 20 purchased at the end of 2015 bring the total number of multi-space meters to nearly 1,000 in the city, he said. …
