CANSTRUCTION ; Charity Event Returns to Clay Center

The Covenant House of Charleston is preparing for its 10th annual Canstruction event at the Clay Center. This year's build day will be held April 2 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Seven teams, comprising areas businesses, churches and governmental agencies, will participate in the build.

Ranging from a giant birthday cake to a patriotic Canstruction, the teams will compete for various prizes, including best use of labels; structural ingenuity; best meal; jurors' favorite; the people's choice award; and the can spirit award.

All of the cans that will be used to create the structures will be donated to the Covenant House's food pantry, which serves approximately 10,000 people in the Kanawha Valley every year, according to its executive director, Ellen Allen. …
