Suspect Dies in Case of Hermann Woman Found Strangled, Stuffed in Trunk

A woman who was charged with murder after the body of her roommate was found stuffed inside a wooden chest has died.

Karen Brinkley, of Hermann, Mo., was arrested in July after the death of Marion Gerloff, 64. Later, Brinkley also was charged with forgery, stealing and identity theft.

Authorities had discovered Gerloff's body after family members weren't able to reach her and became worried, Hermann Police Chief Marlon Walker said. They called authorities in Hermann to check on her at home, and Brinkley allowed officers to search the home.

They found Gerloff's body inside a wooden chest. She had been strangled and left for months.
