Doctor Forfeits License as Part of Fraud Plea

State medical authorities have revoked the license of a Bergen County doctor convicted of defrauding insurers out of hundreds of thousands of dollars by billing for office visits that never happened.

Albert Ades, 61, of Englewood, agreed to forfeit his medical license in a consent order he signed with the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners after his March 14 sentencing in Newark Federal Court, the state Attorney General's Office announced Thursday.

Ades, who had family medicine practices in Cresskill and Little Falls, pleaded guilty last year to a single count of health care fraud after being accused of billing Medicare, Medicaid and private insurers more than $280,000 over a nine-year-period for services he never provided.

The federal judge who sentenced Ades to 37 months in prison earlier this month compared him with Robin Hood but was unsympathetic to his claims that he was only stealing from rich insurance companies to help his patients. …
