The March 20 editorial "Picture of Health," noting significant improvement in health indicators as reported by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, is very good news for Allegheny County. The focus on providing and improving safe outdoor spaces with beautiful parks, hiking and biking trails, baseball and soccer fields, used by individuals and families, provides enjoyment and promotes a healthy, active lifestyle.

The many youth programs and all of the professionals and volunteers who help make them possible are major contributors to improving the collective health care of our citizens and community.

Within the medical community, significant changes have also occurred. Primary care practices have made major strides in improving care. The implementation of "patient centered medical homes" has improved the coordination of care with respect to access to behavioral and mental health care, guidance and assistance with social issues, healthy activities, diet and weight management. …
