A Bradenton company has bought more than 17 acres in Cortez for $10 million.

Florida Land Enterprises assembled eight parcels along 12500 Cortez Road W., where the former owners planned a residential and commercial development years ago. The land is just north of Cortez Road and just east of the bridge to Bradenton Beach.

The new owners, Eric T. Grimes of Bradenton and local developer Marshall Gobuty, have met with Manatee County officials about potential development -- possibly a top-end recreational vehicle park -- but nothing has been determined.

The land was bought from Hunters Hill Inc., a Cortez company headed by Peter and Eva Thurell and Christopher Ayre of Stocksund, Sweden.

Ten years ago, the Thurells, who have lived in Cortez, planned a 40-home subdivision and 7,000 square feet of commercial space. …
