Rob Refsnyder's rough week in camp got even rougher Sunday when he was optioned to Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. "Our feeling is we want him to go play more at third for him to be valuable to us," manager Joe Girardi said of Refsnyder's reassignment to minor league camp.

Recently converted from the outfield to second base, Refsnyder attempted to learn third base on the fly -- a position he'd never previously played as a professional. Refsnyder made four errors in 18 spring games, though "he might have had two or three easy ones," Girardi said. "We just felt that more reps would be extremely beneficiary."

X-rays of the right side of Refsnyder's face came back negative after being struck by a bad-hop grounder Saturday at Dunedin, forcing him out of the game on his 25th birthday. A day earlier, Refsnyder sustained a cut above his lip when a hot one-hopper glanced off his glove. …
