Dr. Emily A Farkas has been accepted to train as a cardiothoracic surgeon at Yale University Hospital. She is the first woman to achieve this honor at Yale.

Farkas, of Green Tree, attended St. Margaret of Scotland grade school, Canevin Catholic High School and Pepperdine University. Her medical career began at The Chicago Medical School and she is now finishing a five-year surgical residency at Ochsner Medication Foundation in New Orleans.

Jessica E. Locketz, of Mt. Lebanon, has been elected associate rabbi of Temple Emanuel of South Hills in Mt. Lebanon.

Her installation ceremony took place last month as part of a Shabbat service.

Locketz, who was hired by the Temple Emanuel board of trustees in June, previously served as associate rabbi of Rodef Shalom Congregation in Shadyside and Beth El Hebrew Congregation in Alexandria, Va. …
