Despite the efforts of an anonymous, automated caller trying to rally opposition to a proposed expansion of the Wal-Mart store in Cranberry, no one spoke against the addition plans, which were approved by the township planning commission last week..

Assistant Township Manager Dan Santoro said the township got more than a dozen calls from residents saying they had received calls from an unidentified, tape-recorded caller. The message urged them to attend the planning commission meeting and oppose Wal-Mart's proposed addition if they were concerned about traffic issues in Cranberry.

"There was no identification as to who was behind the calls," Santoro said.

He said Wal-Mart officials told the township they have never been targeted by an anonymous phone campaign before. Santoro said the township, too, has never experienced this type of campaign.

Santoro said no one attending the public meeting last Wednesday commented on the Wal-Mart project, which the planning commission approved with little discussion. …
