Teens Will Pay Price for Sex Education Policy

In response to the "School's sex education to focus on diseases, promote abstinence" published Aug. 11, I trust Mr. [Charles] Fazekas and the West Allegheny schools will soon be telling students not to get into a motor vehicle.

The reasoning he used, "We're taking the approach that the only way to prevent getting a disease is not participating in activities that put you at risk" could indicate that rather than telling students to wear seat belts, to decrease their risk of injury in an accident, he will be telling them to avoid cars altogether.

"Abstinence-only" policies have been proven to be less effective than comprehensive policies.

Often parents don't talk to their children about sex at all -- let alone about the details of correct condom use.

Let's be honest, plenty of parents don't even know how to correctly use a condom. …
