Regarding "Conservatives Are Charitable, But They Have These Concerns" by David J. Prepelka (March 20 letters): The writer misunderstands Christianity and bases his "concerns" on invented facts.

In Matthew 25:31-46, Jesus says that those who will enter the Kingdom of God are those who have fed the hungry, clothed the naked, welcomed strangers, cared for the sick and visited those in prison. The writer defines this as "charity," which he conflates with "tax-deductible gifts," so he can, incorrectly, claim that conservatives are more "charitable than liberals."

Conservatives do give more to churches and to buildings named for themselves, but this is not the same as feeding the hungry or caring for the poor.

The claims that "many welfare recipients are rewarded for avoiding work" and that having children is an industry are not true, and no examples of them are given. …
