Topeka Police ID Body Found Monday in Shunganunga Creek; Foul Play Not Suspected

Authorities said Tuesday foul play isn't suspected in the death of a man previously included on the Northeast Kansas Most Wanted list whose body was found Monday in the Shunganunga Creek just south of downtown Topeka.

Topeka police spokeswoman Amy McCarter identified the man Tuesday as James Otis Martin, 49, of Topeka.

According to Topeka Capital-Journal archives, Martin's name appeared on the Most Wanted list in 2013 in connection with an aggravated escape from custody.

Kansas Department of Corrections records showed Martin also had been incarcerated for numerous crimes dating back to 1995, including theft, forgery, false impersonation, drug possession, burglary, perjury, intimidation of a witness and aggravated assault. …
