Cubans Will Benefit from Better Relations with the U.S

Since the 1960s, the United States has placed an embargo on Cuba, making it illegal for anyone in the United States to trade with the nation in an attempt to convince the Cuban government to give its people more freedoms.

I'm not going to argue that human rights aren't essential - just that a trade embargo is not the solution.

After all, 50-plus years with the embargo has done very little to improve conditions. It only continues to strain U.S.-Cuba relations. And if 50 years of a trade embargo with one of the biggest markets in the world can't persuade the Cuban government to give its people increased liberties, then I don't think it ever will. That's why we need to lift the embargo and continue to ease relationships with Cuba.

If you really think about it, the innocent Cuban citizens are the people who are suffering under the embargo. …
