Gas Pushes Firmly above $2 per Gallon

Gas prices nationally pushed over the $2 mark last week for the first time in about three months, while the average price in Southwest Florida has climbed to $2.03, up about 35 cents from a month ago.

The national average was $2.039 on Monday, up slightly from the previous day and about 29 cents from a month ago.

The Florida average was $2.066 on Monday, flat with the previous day, but up about 33 cents from a month ago, the AAA data showed.

The upshot is that while yearly savings continue to persist, they are beginning to dwindle, according to data from AAA. The national average, for example, represents a savings of about 39 cents per gallon year-over-year and about $1.50 compared with where prices stood a year ago.

"Gas prices keep pushing higher due to upward pressure on crude oil, supply and demand, and refinery -maintenance season," AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins said. …
