WU SOFTBALL SPLITS: The Washburn softball team on Friday earned a split on the first day of the Apple Market Regional Crossover hosted by Missouri Western.

In the opener, Minnesota State defeated WU 6-0 and in the nightcap, the Bods defeated Sioux Falls 5-2.

Against Minnesota State, Samantha Carson (5-5) pitched seven innings and struck out six. Taylor Zimmerman had WU's only hit.

In the nightcap against Sioux Falls, the Ichabods scored five runs in the third inning, capped by a three-run homer by Marina Quimby. Ashley Wills (4-6) went the distance for the Ichabods, allowing two earned runs while striking out four with no walks.

Cassidy Merriman, Megan Stegman and Quimby each had two hits for Washburn (9-12).
