Ten school districts in Allegheny County have been named Best Communities for Music Education by the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation.

The districts are: Bethel Park, Clairton, Fox Chapel Area, Mt. Lebanon, McKeesport Area, Moon Area, North Allegheny, North Hills, Quaker Valley and Upper St. Clair.

Freeport Area in Armstrong County and Kiski Area in Westmoreland County were also honored.

They are among 63 districts in Pennsylvania and 476 nationwide to earn the distinction for 2016.

According to the foundation, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in providing music access and education to all students.

Districts are evaluated on a variety of factors, including funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program, and community music-making programs. …
