Not-So-Smooth Criminal Leaves Phone Behind during Festus Burglary

There was a mess on the floor when Jason Hughes went to open up the store on Tuesday, his first hint that something was amiss among the comic books, games and collectibles.

Then he realized the cash register was gone. The store had been robbed.

The worst part was that the burglar also took a laptop, maybe $35 in change and some other small items from the business, All the Rage Comics & Games at 220 East Main Street in Festus. The store didn't open on Tuesday so owners could deal with calling the police and replacing the register.

But they had to laugh, too. The best part is what the burglar didn't take with him, say Hughes and co-owner, Brandon Williams.

The thief made a dumb move and left his smartphone behind in the store which could be worth more than the $35 in change he got.

"The phone had 33 missed calls, probably from him looking for the phone," said Williams, 29. …
