Mount Oliver fire draws 7 fire companies

Reports of occupants trapped on a roof -which proved false, as regards to humans -drew seven fire companies to the 400 block of Hays Street in Mount Oliver on Saturday.

After the call came in shortly before 4 p.m., departments "started to roll out a lot of people because of the report of entrapment," said Mount Oliver Fire Chief Fran Kestner.

In addition to his department, Brentwood, Whitehall, Baldwin, South Baldwin, Dormont and Homestead trucks converged on the narrow street.

It turned out no one was home.

Firefighters controlled the fire within half an hour and rescued a cat from a second-floor roof.

Chief Kestner did not provide a cause, but said the fire destroyed a first-floor room and its contents, and caused smoke and heat damage to the second floor. …
