LOUIS van Gaal's presence in the Old Trafford directors' box had differing effects on returning United duo Ashley Young and Phil Jones.

Young was playing his first game in nearly three months and was tireless and determined in the striker's role for United Under-21s against Chelsea. Phil Jones, though, looked like a rookie rather than a senior squad member.

In front of a strong Old Trafford crowd who capitalised on the free admission, Young reminded United supporters just why they have missed him in recent months.
