Bevo Mill the South St. Louis Landmark Up for Sale

St. Louis city officials want someone to get the Bevo Mill's windmill turning again. They're looking to sell the historic landmark or, if failing that, find a new business to lease the building.

A catering service uses the kitchen for now, but the rest of the century-old restaurant built by August A. Busch Sr. is empty, and the entire building is available.

The Bevo Mill, at 4749 Gravois Avenue, was Busch's rest stop on his way home from his Anheuser-Busch brewery in Soulard to his Grant's Farm estate. Brewery ownership ended in 2008 after Belgium- based beer giant InBev swallowed Anheuser-Busch, then gave the Bevo's distinctive Dutch windmill and the rest of the building to the city.

L&M Catering took over Bevo's operation in 2009 after a previous operator abruptly left, but it also has departed. A representative for L&M couldn't be reached for comment.

Gourmet FoodWorks, which was reported to be affiliated with L&M in 2009, uses the kitchen now but only for off-site events, said Jennifer Gierhart, the catering service's operator. …
